In a triumphant display of soccer excellence, Mitigator FC soared to victory at the 2023 Indiana Homeschool State Championship in Fort Wayne, Indiana, held on October 13 and 14. Facing formidable competition throughout the tournament, Mitigator FC’s Boys Varsity team showcased their skill and determination. The journey to the championship title began with a resounding 5-0 win against Southside Thunder, setting the tone for their remarkable performance. The team’s mettle was tested during a challenging match against Fort Wayne Fusion, characterized by heavy rain and muddy conditions. In a nail-biting affair, Mitigator FC secured a 1-0 victory, a testament to their grit and teamwork.
The grand finale saw Mitigator FC pitted against the defending champions from 2022, the Indy Warriors. In a display of exceptional team pressure, defensive prowess, and fluid midfield attacks led by Andres, Maximus, Michael, and Zander, Mitigator FC outshone their opponents. Upfront, Miguel’s deft touches and agile movements penetrated the opposing defense, resulting in a resounding 3-1 victory and the coveted Indiana State Title.
The middle school team’s ascent to glory was equally impressive. They kicked off their journey with a convincing 7-0 win against Fort Wayne Fusion. In the semifinals, they faced a formidable opponent in the league’s top-ranked team, the Bloomington Bobcats. Despite rain, mud, and slippery conditions, the Mitigator FC middle school team emerged victorious with a 3-1 win, securing their spot in the finals. There, they met the resilient Jaguars, and once again, adverse weather conditions added to the challenge. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, leading to a dramatic penalty shootout. With nerves of steel, the Mitigators clinched victory, scoring 2 of their 3 shots while blocking 2 from the Jaguars.
These remarkable victories mark a historic achievement for Mitigator FC, especially considering it’s only their second year in the league. Their double triumph at the Varsity and Middle School levels is an unprecedented feat for Southern Indiana Homeschool teams. As they move forward, Mitigator FC’s Boys Varsity team is set to compete in the Homeschool National Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee, next week. Currently ranked 2nd in the country, the Mitigators are poised to make a formidable challenge for the national titles.
